Programs/Client Services Department, 1982-1993
Scope and Contents
This series consists of documents concerning the administration of the Client Services Department and the programs run by the department. These have included health counseling, support groups, housing, client advocacy and referrals, including special services for women, people of color, and non-English speaking people.
The majority of records in the subseries come from the Hank Travera and Tristano Palermino administrations. Very few of Michael Lee's files survived his 1994 departure, so almost nothing from Client Services in the 1990s is documented. Project Open Hand, which took over the Food Bank in 1991, retains records from 1983 on. Within Tavera's records, and also among Pat Christen's Subject Files (Series 1: Subseries C.), there are a number of incident reports pertaining to the behavior of individual clients; these have been purged of names, addresses, and other identifying notations while preserving the nature and response to the particular incidents.
This series is divided into 5 subseries, each documenting the work of one of the four Client Services Directors, or the Women's Services Coordinator. These subseries are: A. Steve Pratt, Director of Client Services; B. Tristano Palermino, Director of Client Services; C. Hank Tavera, Director of Client Services; D. Michael Lee, Director of Client Services; and D. Catherine Maier, Coordinator of Women's Services.
