Content Description
In the late 1950s and early 1960s, the University of California, San Francisco established a Pastoral Clinical Educational Program. With the help of the guidance of thefirst Chaplain at UCSF Medical Center, Reverend Elmer Laursen, S.T.M., the program developed to offer pastoral services to patient care and provide an educational program for students who wanted to work in pastoral clinical care.The correspondence tracesdiscussions around the implementation and continuation of the program and showcases the role Reverend Laursen played in the process.
The 21st Anniversary Celebration of Chaplaincy Training event took place in 1982. Correspondence between the organizer and allthe Pastoral Clinical Education Programsinvited. Programs responded with condolences of not being able to attend, however their letters include news about their programs, celebrated individuals, newspaper clippings, and photographs of significant members.
