Abstract
Katherine Krebs was the Founder and President of KREBS Convention & Event Management Services, which was the company responsible for many of the AIDS conferences and conventions held in San Francisco in the 1980s and 1990s. She later served as a Communications Analyst, Editor, Social Media Manager, and Executive Assistant in UCSF's Department of Bioengineering and Therapeutic Sciences. This collection includes materials Krebs gathered from her work with her company in the form of event materials, handouts, logistical planning documents, daily planners, photos, color slides, audio tape cassettes, and VHS tapes. These all pertain to events held at the city/state level, national level, or international level—most of which were focused on HIV/AIDS efforts. Audio tape cassettes make up the majority of this collection and are recordings of lectures and events from various National AIDS Update Conferences held in the late 1980s to the mid 1990s in San Francisco. The VHS tapes pertain to the Gay Games held in 1986 in San Francisco. This collection offers a detailed look into the planning that went into the AIDS conferences that shaped the national and global response to the AIDS epidemic.
Arrangement
The collection is arranged into three series:
I. Medical Conferences, 1992-2000
II. AIDS Conferences, 1987-2001
III. AIDS Workshops, Projects, and Events, 1986-1996
Series I-III are each arranged into Sub-Series and organized by subject matter.
Series II, AIDS Conferences, is specifically divided into conferences at the State level, the national level, and the international level.
Several national conferences have paper materials and audiotape cassettes that are all organized under the same subseries based on conference title, but they are physically housed in separate cartons for preservation purposes.
