Scope and Contents

From the Series:

Correspondence files include letters, greeting cards, and postcards to ATN and/or John S. James from people with AIDS, ATN subscribers, inmates in correctional facilities, healthcare providers, and others from the United States and other countries. Subjects include HIV/AIDS treatments and drugs, the ATN newsletter, politics, personal stories, and related topics. Correspondence files are restricted; they include restricted personal information and protected health information. PHI is restricted in accordance with HIPAA rules. Material will be reviewed upon request. Contact the UCSF Archivist for information on access to restricted material.

Conditions Governing Access

Collection is open for research. The UCSF Archives and Special Collections policy places access restrictions on material with privacy issues for a specific time period from the date of creation. Restrictions are noted at the series and/or folder level. This collection will be reviewed for sensitive content upon request.
